Please check out the satellite pictures of Japan after the tsunami here. You can move the slider in the middle of each set of photos to get a better picture of the before/after situation. It's harrowing. I feel like I owe Japan a lot for bringing me Arashi and manga and sushi and many, many other wonderful things, so it's really distressing to see all the damage they've sustained in the past few days.

If you haven't heard yet, there are a lot of fandom charity events going around LJ to help out Japan, most notably, [ profile] help_japan. I don't know which organizations are the "best ones" to donate to, because I don't think Japan has made an official statement on their need for international as of yet. However, Google has provided a direct way to donate to the Japanese Red Cross here. Adding to that, if you'd like to donate your time/money via a fundraiser, [ profile] arashi_on has a very active one going on here; my thread is here (I've listed other fandoms I can write for, so it definitely doesn't have to be Arashi-related).

And, as ever, there are still relief efforts being made in Haiti, New Zealand, and the Gulf (oil spill), so contributions to any of those areas are important, too (more links in this post).

Probably your f-list is filled with these kind of posts, so I'm sorry if you're already familiar with those communities. Mainly I just wanted to share that NYTimes link.

UPDATE: FIC LIST and PROGRESS (in order of people contacting me -- but since most of you guys pretty much donated around the same time, I'm sort of writing whatever I have the most ideas for at the time)

Thank you (is that the right word? >.>) for sharing that NY Times link, holy cow. I'm going to probably donate to Global Giving and/or Red Cross and/or Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders).

Yeah, it's really hard to see and yet I'm kind of engrossed in seeing the disaster. Today I watched this six minute long video footage of a town getting completely swept under by the tsunami. The water level first started off very low, with only a few boxes being pushed around, but by the end of the video, the level was insane and entire buildings were being shoved off the ground like dollhouses. It was insane.

Those sound like good places to go! I was kind of wondering which was the best choice, but I'm glad [ profile] arashi_on is giving to the Red Cross since there is a Japanese Red Cross. I think I'll make another donation today, actually... >___> Read Arashi's message here ( and got a little emotional, sigh.

*hugs back*

Thank you for the link. I'm kinda amazed and happy that Arashi fans have given so much! I'm personally wanting to donate to the places I am as a person, not just as a fan, but the power of fandom to mobilize is wonderful.

Thank you for the link, it's good to read about such things. It may be PR but I like to think it's Arashi being the decent people that they are, wanting to give an encouraging message to people. <3

...not gonna lie, I'm wondering like a couple commenters on that link if JE will do a collab like TOKIO, Kinki Kids, and V6 did for that benefit all those years ago. >.> Wasn't that for the Kobe earthquake?

Hope you're doing well~ <3 *hugs*
